Monitoring and Evalu-what? New Course Offering on Monitoring and Evaluation Starts Monday, May 20
Have you seen language calling for ‘Monitoring and Evaluation’ in funding opportunities and wondered what is that? The Monitoring and Evaluation Leadership in Learning course contains professionally curated content to help registrants understand more deeply what Monitoring and Evaluation is, how it can be applied to projects to manage for outcomes, and practical information on how to lead monitoring and evaluation systems.
The course mimics real-world project activities beginning with developing a log-frame, results framework, or theory of change and ending with testing of data instruments in KoBo Toolbox for use in off-grid data collection.
Designed as a professional development course, the Office of International Programs has enrolled over 50 working professionals from 19 different countries including Austria, Belize, Cameroon, Ghana, India, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa, South Sudan, Spain, Syria, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Uganda, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
WSU faculty and students interested in learning about monitoring and evaluation for international projects are welcome to register for the next offering starting May 20.
Participants from the past offerings are already using the skills and tools they developed during the course. For example, Dr. Karen Duca, who enrolled while volunteering with Bambi Land Montessori School in Ghana, used a survey she developed using a mobile data collection application introduced through the course. “It really served my needs when I was doing educational outreach in southern Ghana.” She was not alone in finding value in the applied approach taken by the course. Every student is given space where they can complete tasks applicable to their own programs, research, and studies.

The course registration fee is $625, including the option of earning 3.5 Continuing Education Unit credits. This is a non-credit course developed with WSU’s Professional Education team.
WSU departments paying for course enrollment fees can pay by submitting an IRI to noncredit@wsu.edu.
