New Gonzaga law dean Rooksby delivers Sept. 5 Common Reading lecture

Jacob H. Rooksby, new dean of the Gonzaga University School of Law, will deliver the inaugural Common Reading lecture for 2018-19 on Wed., Sept. 5, at 5 p.m. in CUE 203 at Washington State University.

The event is co-sponsored by the Common Reading Program and the WSU Pre-Law Resource Center.

“The Law and Emerging Technologies” is the title of Rooksby’s presentation, which is open to the public at no charge.  It aligns with topics in this year’s common read, Soonish: Ten Emerging Technologies That’ll Improve and/or Ruin Everything. The book is used extensively in first-year and other classes, as well as extracurricular programming. The lecture series draws on topics from the book, and allows faculty and guest experts to share their knowledge directly with students.

Rooksby, a renowned expert in intellectual property law and higher education law and policy, and their intersection, will speak about the legal challenges created by emerging technologies.

His scholarship has been featured in journals such as the Harvard Journal of Law and Technology, the Yale Journal of Law and Technology, and the Review of Higher Education.

He is the author of The Branding of the American Mind: How Universities Capture, Manage, and Monetize Intellectual Property and Why It Matters.
