June 8 – Right of Passage: A Documentary

“Every human rights campaign starts with a goal to right a fundamental wrong.”  — Janice D. Tanaka

A special public screening of the documentary Right of Passage will be held on Friday, June 8, from 6‑8 p.m. in CUE 203.

Tanaka’s film presents a comprehensive portrait of those who sought justice for the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. The story of the movement that led to the passing of the 1988 Civil Liberties Act is told through declassified documents, film footage, and interviews. This event is sponsored by the Asia Program as part of the Asian Studies on the Pacific Coast conference, which is being hosted at WSU June 8‑June 10. This film screening is free and open to the public.
