WSU Transportation Services has launched a new commute trip planning service called Coug Commute Advisor. The program is intended to assist staff, faculty, and students who may be interested in planning a new commute using an alternative transportation option with planning a commute that fits their needs.
The Coug Commute Advisor program will assist people with changing their commute from driving alone to an alternative transportation option, such as walking, biking, riding the bus, vanpool, or carpool, or a combination of multiple commute options. The service is completely free of charge, and participants simply go to our Coug Commute Advisor webpage, fill out the personal survey form, and Transportation Services will typically return your planned commute in no longer than five business days.
For those who are wary of turning in their parking permit in fear that their new commute option won’t work for them, there is no need to worry. For anyone participating in the Coug Commute Advisor program, if they discover that their new commute option isn’t going to work and they need their permit back, they will be able to regain their permit regardless of whether the permit is currently sold out.
There are many benefits to choosing an alternative transportation option, including lowering commute costs such as fuel, vehicle wear and tear, and parking, as well as lifestyle benefits such as reducing the stress of driving, and gaining the health benefits associated with choosing an alternative such as biking, walking, or transit. Furthermore, the more people who utilize an alternative transportation option will be doing their part in reducing the university’s carbon footprint, as well as reducing traffic and parking congestion on campus.
