Traditional storyteller, mentor, and motivational speaker, Crit Callebs will visit the WSU Pullman campus, October 5-6. Crit Callebs is of Eastern Band Cherokee and Appalachian descent and lives on the Yakama Nation Indian Reservation. He travels throughout the U.S. sharing his gift for storytelling and facilitating workshops with tribal organizations, universities, K-12 schools, and teen treatment centers. Callebs has been a featured storyteller at Harvard University; University of Louisville; University of Kentucky; Central Washington University Museum of Culture and Environment; Native Wellness Institute; the Native American Training Institute; and the Globalization, Diversity, and Education Conference. He uses stories to uplift and inspire.
Hosted by the WSU Writing Program, the events are free and open to the public, and will be delivered via AMS to Spokane – Room SAC 145A, Vancouver – Room VMMC 204, Tri-Cities – Room West 101A, and Everett – Room GWH 370 locations.
Callebs’ keynote, titled “Elders: A Precious Resource During Troubled Times,” will be held Wednesday, October 5, 4:00-6:00pm in CUB 210 – Junior Ballroom East. Light refreshments will be served. He will facilitate a workshop, “Traditional Mentoriing: The Art of Changing Lives,” for writing tutors and future teachers Thursday, October 6. The workshop is by-invitation-only.
