Free Hip-Hop and Capoeira dance workshops Saturday

On Saturday, Sept. 24, Rejoice! Diaspora Dance Theatre will present two free workshops in Smith Gym 115, as part of the 4th Annual Humanitas Festival A Hip-Hop dance workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Capoeira dance workshop at 12:00 p.m. All experience levels are welcome and comfortable clothing is recommended. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes early.

 

Rejoice! Diaspora Dance Theatre will also present a free concert on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Theatre at Daggy Hall. True to their name, the dancers and drummers of Rejoice! Diaspora Dance Theater joyfully perform selections inspired by influences of African music and dance blended with other world-wide cultures. This performance by the seven-member ensemble will range in content from Brazilian Danças dos Blocos Afros as seen in Carnaval celebrations, to Locking and Uptown Funk from the streets of L.A., to “Phenomenally” inspired by poetry of Maya Angelou and more. Colorful, dynamic and passionate, the work of this company has been described as “Strong, yet soft, Weightless but powerful.” (Portland Tribune). A must see!

 

The performance and workshops are presented by Festival Dance, in residence at the University of Idaho and WSU Performing Arts.
