Washington state’s Joint Center for Deployment and Research in Earth Abundant Materials (JCDREAM) will hold its inaugural research symposium Oct. 3 and 4.
The free forum begins at 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Henry M. Jackson Center Wilderness Auditorium at Everett Community College.

JCDREAM was established by the Washington legislature in 2015 to accelerate development of next-generation clean energy, energy storage and transportation technologies using accessible, earth-abundant materials. Many clean technologies are dependent on rare earth elements and other materials that are expensive and difficult to acquire sustainably.
The collaborative partnership includes researchers from Washington State University, University of Washington and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
The event will bring together researchers and policy makers to discuss the latest developments and trends as well as regional strategies. State Rep. Norma Smith will welcome symposium participants and Alex King, director of the Critical Materials Hub in Ames, Iowa, will be the keynote speaker.
“Washington is already a leader in the clean technology sector, and the JCDREAM promises to build on our existing efforts to become a national leader in sustainable manufacturing,” said Dave Field, center director and associate dean of research in the WSU Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. “We’re excited to bring together the state’s leading research institutions for the first time to begin working on these efforts.”
