NEW Leadership at WSU June 2-7

NEW Leadership is envisioned as a yearlong educational experience. The WSU National Education for Women (NEW) Leadership Summer Institute strives to educate and empower young women to be efficacious leaders. A crucial component of the NEW Leadership curriculum is based on the philosophy that leadership is best learned by taking action.

At NEW Leadership, students explore their own notions of leadership and participate in hands-on training sessions to develop their public speaking and advocacy skills. The skills and knowledge student’s gain through the program apply to a wide range of policy areas and leadership possibilities. During the institute, participants learn a great deal about women and politics, develop and refine their leadership skills, and are inspired by the women leaders they encounter.

We continue to revise and refine the ways in which we encourage students to “take NEW Leadership home” and apply the knowledge, skills, and energy they get from the summer institute to an issue or activity in their own lives, campuses and communities.

The relaunch of NEW Leadership was made possible thanks to a grant from the Women’s Funding Alliance. This six-day residential, nonpartisan training program addresses the underrepresentation of women in leadership and political positions in the United States and will be launching June 2-7.
