April 2-3: Hands-on workshops address livestock health

cowSNOHOMISH, Wash. – Keeping livestock happy and healthy is the focus of Livestock Handling & Care hands-on workshops April 2-3 at the Sheriff’s Posse Arena, 5421 S. Machias Rd., Snohomish.

Class size is limited and prepaid registration is required for the workshops, which are presented by Washington State University Snohomish County Extension agriculture and 4-H programs. Cost is $20 per person per workshop or $50 per person for all three. Participants will receive a flash drive loaded with resources.

Hands-on workshops with live animals will include topics such as hoof trimming, injections, dehorning, halter training, nutrition, fencing and more. Workshops will be taught by award-winning graduates and seniors from the WSU Snohomish County 4-H livestock program.

Poultry: 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2. Proper care and handling for all types of poultry, egg and meat breeds, housing, nutrition and more.

Beef: 12:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2. Proper leading, handling, dehorning and injection techniques along with fencing, nutrition and more.

Goats: 12:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3. The basics of handling, nutrition, fencing, housing, dehorning, milking, kid care and more.
