Plan now and don’t get stuck in a financial pickle. Summer financial aid is not guaranteed.
Typically, financial aid for summer consists of grants and loans that you may have qualified for during the academic year but did not accept or use. You can also use Parent PLUS Loans and private loans to cover the cost of summer classes. Finally, if you are eligible for College Bound, you may be able to use it during the summer.
If you are planning to take classes this summer, we recommend planning and saving now in order to be prepared.
What steps do I need to take to be eligible for summer financial aid?
- File a 2015-2016 FAFSA if you haven’t already. The 2015-2016 application covers fall 2015, spring 2016, and summer 2016.
- Register for your summer classes starting in February! In order to receive financial aid during the summer, you must enroll in 6 credits if you are an undergraduate and 3 credits if you are a graduate/professional student. Once you are registered, we will then review your account to determine your eligibility to receive aid for the summer term. Please be aware that submitting a FAFSA and registering for classes doesn’t automatically mean you will be awarded summer aid.
If you have additional questions about your summer financial aid, feel free to visit our Summer Aid FAQ page or to make an appointment with your local Student Financial Services office.
