Mathematics Colloquium

Piermarco Cannarsa from the Mathematics Department at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” will present Control of Certain Classes of Degenerate Diffusive Systems on Monday, December 7, at 4:10 p.m. in Neill 5w.

The control of diffusive systems is well developed for uniformly parabolic operators, much less so for degenerate problems. In the latter case, a general theory which covers controllability and observabilty is still missing. However, we can give a fairly complete analysis of such properties for certain classes of degenerate parabolic equations. This talk will focus on controllability and observability for models which degenerate at the boundary of the space domain as well as hypoelliptic diffusions associated with the Grushin and Heisenberg laplacians.

Join us for refreshments in Neill 216 at 3:30pm.
