The MLK program is currently seeking submissions for this year’s Art for Social Change Contest. The deadline has been extended to 5pm on Friday, December 4, 2015.
The Art for Social Change Contest seeks to create space for and recognize the role of art in advancing social justice. We seek artistic submissions that provoke, challenge, and inspire. We hope that this competition will call attention to the need to not only recognize the vast inequality that persists in the world today, but also recognize the necessity to build a new more just world – to dream, to envision, to invent, to create – redefining how we live and interact with our surroundings.
We are all accepting all forms of artistic expression including, but not limited to: paintings in any media, drawings, sculptures, poetry, etc. For a more exhaustive list of submission examples please visit https://mlk.wsu.edu/art-for-social-change/guidelines-and-rules/
Awards this year will be given to the top submissions and will consist of a choice between: $100 scholarship or $100 Bookie Gift Card. Submissions will be judged on artistic representation, the ability to provoke and inspire change, and innovation and originality.
This year our submissions categories are as follows:
Remembering MLK:
Submissions that commemorate the history of the Civil Rights Movement and the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Social Justice in Action:
Submissions that address contemporary issues of inequality and injustice at the local and/or the global level.
Community-Building at WSU:
Submissions that foster an inclusive community at Washington State University.
