New WSU Libraries Dimensions Lab open

On Sept. 8, WSU Libraries opened the Dimensions Lab, a self-directed digital learning space that couples the library tradition of public access computers with innovative state-of-the-art technology.

Each of the 12 computers (8 PCs, 4 Macintoshes) includes large high-resolution monitors, Adobe Creative Suite, the mapping platform ArcGIS and access to stable, high-speed internet. In addition, the lab is equipped with a Lynda kiosk (https://www.lynda.com/) for watching tutorials and classes on everything from Photoshop to business strategies. An Oculus Rift development station (https://www.oculus.com/en-us/rift/) also allows patrons to explore hundreds of virtual reality scenarios.

WSU Libraries will start a series of focus groups in early November to help decide what types of equipment and technology students want and need from this space. Students are invited to come to the Dimensions Lab to offer their feedback. The lab is open from 7:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. IT assistance is available from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every day.
