English Department Colloquium, Friday Oct. 16

Professor Will Hamlin of the WSU English Department will speak about the 16th-century French writer Michel de Montaigne, widely regarded as the creator of the personal essay. Hamlin will focus on Montaigne’s understanding of moral responsibility, particularly as conveyed by John Florio in his English translation of Montaigne’s Essays, published in 1603. Hamlin’s talk will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, October 16, in the newly-renovated Bundy Reading Room of Avery Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend; lunch snacks will be provided.
