Award-winning author of nine volumes of poetry, teacher, and activist, Brenda Hillman will read from her work as part of the Washington State University Visiting Writer Series on Oct. 20, at 5 p.m. in the Museum of Art/WSU. The event is free and open to the public.Hillman’s work has been described as “eclectic, mercurial, sensuous, and luminescent.” She will read from her most recent book, Seasonal Works with Letters on Fire, and take questions from the audience. “Brenda Hillman is one of the country’s most important poets,” said Debbie Lee, professor of English at WSU and co-director of the Writer Series. “She writes about things that affect our lives on a daily basis such as war, poverty, and the environment. Her poetry shows us how to act and how to take responsibility for our actions.”
