PEBB Employees – Do You See a Surcharge on Your Paystub You Don’t Think Applies to You?

Beginning July 2014, WSU employees who are covered by one of the Public Employee Benefit Board (PEBB) medical plans may be subject to a Tobacco Use Surcharge ($25/mo), or a Spousal/Domestic Partner Surcharge ($50/mo).   Last Spring, if these surcharges were not applicable to them, faculty and staff were able to address this online or submit a paper Premium Surcharge Attestation form. If an individual did not submit their attestation, these additional charges began to be reflected starting with the July 10th paycheck.

Academic faculty and cyclic staff who did not receive a paycheck over the summer months, may first see the surcharges reflected on their September 10th paycheck. In some cases, the surcharges could reflect retroactive collection of the amount due since July 1.

If you have a surcharge collected from your paycheck which you do not think applies to you, you may complete and submit the Premium Surcharge Attestation form to the HRS office at 139 French Administration, mail to Campus Zip 1014, fax to 509-335-1259 or email to hrs@wsu.edu. Your request will go into effect the first of the month following the date of submission.

Information about the Surcharges can be found at www.hrs.wsu.edu/Surcharges.   Questions can be directed to Human Resource Services at (509)335-4521 or hrs@wsu.edu.
