Northwest Association of Teacher Educators (NWATE) Annual Conference June 5th-6th

WSU’s College of Education will host the annual NWATE conference at WSU Pullman.NW  Teacher educators, in-service teachers, and community educators will gather on Pullman’s campus June 5th-6th to share in ideas and dialogue around this year’s theme, “The Essentials: What Should We Be Teaching?”  Clock hours will be available for K-12 teachers. Surrounding our keynote, Seattle teacher Jesse Hagopian, our program will feature paper presentations, round table, interactive sessions, and alternative sessions including special workshop opportunities. Jesse Hagopian teaches history and is the Black Student Union adviser at Garfield High School, the site of the historic boycott of the MAP test in 2013.  Jesse is an associate editor of Rethinking Schoolsmagazine, is a founding member of Social Equality Educators (SEE, a teachers’ union activist organization), was recipient of the 2012 Abe Keller Foundation award for “excellence and innovation in peace education,” and won the 2013 “Secondary School Teacher of Year” award from the Academy of Education Arts and Sciences. Jesse’s commentary on education has been featured on such programs as Keith Olberman’s Countdown, CNN, The Dan Rather Report, Democracy Now!, The Real News Network, and NBC’s “Education Nation.”  Jesse is the author/editor of the forthcoming book, More Than A Score: Stories from the New Uprising Against Standardized Testing, and is a frequent contributor to, Truth Out, Common Dreams, Black Agenda Report, Socialist Worker, and the Seattle Times op-ed page.
