Confessions of a Young Radical: A Conversation with Mary Beth Tinker

At the age of 13, Mary Beth Tinker took the Des Moines Public Schools to court for infringing on her rights to free expression. Her Supreme Court case, Tinker v. Des Moines Independent School District, became a leading precedent for free speech rights in the United States.  Ms. Tinker is a free speech activist devoted to reminding students of their First Amendment rights.

Mary Beth Tinker trained as a pediatric nurse. She now tours to promote youth activism and student rights. Tinker is listed in 101 Changemakers: Rebels and Radicals Who Changed U.S. History alongside giants such as Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, and Mark Twain.
