PEBB Eligible Employees: April Surcharges and SmartHealth Wellness Incentive

Beginning in July, WSU employees who are covered by one of the Public Employee Benefit Board (PEBB) medical plans may be subject to a Tobacco Use Surcharge ($25/mth), or a Spousal/Domestic Partner Surcharge ($50/mth). Employees may also be eligible for a SmartHealth Wellness Incentive in 2015, which would result in a $125 reduction in their annual deductible, or an additional $125 employer contribution to their Health Savings Accounts for employees enrolled in CDHPs.

Starting April 1, employees will be required to log on to their Health Care Authority’s “My Account” to answer questions that will determine if they are subject to one or both of the surcharges, or eligible for the wellness incentive.

Although the questions will not be able to be addressed until April, you are able to set up your “My Account” now, if you did not already do so during the 2014 Open Enrollment period. Instructions on how to register can be found at “How do I register?”.

Additional information about the Surcharges and SmartHealth Wellness Incentive, as well as more information about other steps you can take now to prepare for April 1, can be found at www.hrs.wsu.edu/Benefits. Questions can be directed to Human Resource Services at 509-335-4521 or hrs@wsu.edu.
