School of Design and Construction Lecture Series: Catherine Wetzel presents “rePositioning”

Catherine Wetzel, an associate dean of graduate academic affairs and associate professor in the College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), will present “rePositioning” on Friday, Feb. 28. at 5p.m. in Carpenter Hall 102.

Wetzel has been teaching at Illinois Institute of Technology since 1990. Her expertise is visual studies and beginning design in both the Bachelor and Master of Architecture programs. In 2005, she received an ACSA Creative Achievement Award and an AIA Education Honor Award for her undergraduate beginning design curriculum. In 2012, she received an ACSA Creative Achievement Award for integrating construction and structures in the Master of Architecture first year studio curriculum. The studio work emphasizes collaboration and full-scale investigations.

She is also a partner at Zed Architects, their work includes residential, commercial and religious projects.

Wetzel presents work from the beginning design courses at IIT. The work bridges a legacy curriculum and diversification of the profession in an Information Age. Distilling salient teaching content into new mediums and methods of working considers the necessity of flexible habits. The ability to negotiate fast questions with slow answers is of particular interest.
