Coffee and Politics: Should Washington adopt a carbon tax?

The Foley Institute’s Coffee & Politics Series continues with Yoram Bauman, who will discuss, “Should Washington adopt a carbon tax?” at noon Tuesday, Nov. 12, in Bryan 308.

British Columbia has implemented a revenue-neutral carbon tax that many economists and environmentalist consider to be the most effective form of climate policy. In Washington, CarbonWA.org is leading an effort to promote a BC-style tax swap that will reduce taxes and fund the Working Families Sales Tax Rebate.

Yoram Bauman is an environmental economist based in Seattle and a fellow at the Sightline Institute, a nonprofit research center focused on Northwest sustainability. He co-authored “Tax Shift” (1998), which helped inspire the B.C. tax.
