The Washington State University Puyallup Research and Extension Center (PREC) is being celebrated by the City of Puyallup as part of the city’s Higher Education Appreciation Week, Sept. 23-28.

Each day will feature a different event to showcase the 125‑year relationship between the Center and the city. The week will culminate with a tailgate event at the WSU PREC, featuring free Grabbers from Ferdinand’s to the first 100 guests, food trucks, a beer garden, Cougar Gold cheese for sale, program tours, and a livestream of the WSU football game.

On Sept. 24, a proclamation will be read celebrating WSU and Pierce College, the two higher education institutes with locations in Puyallup, at the City Council meeting. André‑Denis Wright, dean of WSU’s College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences, will attend the ceremony at the City Council meeting.

“We are proud of the relationship between our Research and Extension Center and the City of Puyallup,” Wright said. “The science being done at our facility is helping people in and around Puyallup, and we greatly appreciate this gesture by the city. We look forward to a continued strong relationship for many years to come.”

Puyallup mayor John Palmer, a Coug alum, said the city wanted to show how much it appreciates the connection between WSU and Puyallup residents.

“The City is very excited to host this event to raise the visibility of WSU’s campus here in Puyallup,” Palmer said. “This is a great opportunity for South Sound Cougs to get together, have fun and cheer WSU to victory over Utah!”

The city is flying WSU banners on light posts around the city as part of the appreciation week, while the Center and city are hosting several events.
