State Route 26 detours and construction return

Car approaches overpass on SR 26.

OTHELLO, Wash. — The drive between Puget Sound and Pullman will be a bit longer the next two weeks.

The Washington State Department of Transportation will once again close State Route 26 east of Othello to finish last fall’s bridge work on the heavily traveled route.

From Monday, April 22, until Friday, April 26, drivers will be sent on a detour through Connell.

Construction crews will remove guardrail, then rebuild the highway bridge approaches with asphalt and replace the guardrail, which will also allow completion of permanent drainage facilities.

The following week, April 29 – May 1, SR 26 will be under one lane with flagger controlled traffic and no detour. Crews will install curbing, centerline rumble strips, flexible guidepost and permanent striping and signing.

Additional information and detour maps can be found at WSDOT’s project site.
