Back-to-school travelers to Pullman get detour reprieve

A portion of State Route 26 runs above railroad tracks east of Othello and that bridge deck needs to be replaced after years of patching.

Planned bridge repairs that would have shut down part of State Route 26 used by thousands of students traveling to Pullman from Puget Sound for the start of the new academic year have been delayed.

The state Department of Transportation announced that the repairs to a bridge deck near Othello would be delayed until after Aug. 20, the first day of fall semester. The project originally was planned to kick-off mid-August and once underway will detour motorists through Connell.

Information about the project, alternative routes and detours is available at the state DOT website.
