Stedman receives Alumni Achievement Award

PULLMAN – Dale Stedman, a 1949 graduate of Washington State University, was awarded the Alumni Achievement Award April 12 at the Spokane Rotary Club meeting. Barry Jones, WSU Alumni Association past president, presented the award.

Stedman began his career at the Inland Empire Automobile Association of America in 1951 and was named its president and CEO in 1967. He served on six national committees including budget, public & government, highway, traffic safety, accreditation and policy for AAA before retiring in 1994.

Stedman has served Washington State University as a foundation trustee, President’s Associate and Alumni Association member. Stedman has made numerous contributions to the Washington transportation industry. He was appointed by the governor to serve on the Washington State Transportation Commission, the board of directors for the Washington State Department of Transportation. He also serves Spokane Area Good Roads Association, Washington State Good Roads and Transportation Association, Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Spokane Regional Transportation Council.

He has devoted hours of service to the Citizen’s League of Spokane, Spokane Rotary Club, and the YMCA of Inland Empire and numerous other Spokane organizations.

Stedman is the 461st WSU alumnus to receive the Alumni Achievement Award. The award was created in 1970 by the WSUAA Board of Directors to recognize alumni who have given outstanding service to WSU and made contributions to their professions, community and nation. The award encourages alumni to provide perpetual service to WSU.
