Feast experience combines gourmet meal, art, music

PULLMAN -Washington State University will host the first Feast of the Arts for 2006 on Friday, Sept. 29 with a reception beginning at 6 p.m. in the Todd Hall Atrium and dinner at 7 p.m. in Todd Hall Dining Room 268.

The Feast of the Arts is a series of events held during the weekends of home Cougar football games to provide guests with a memorable experience combining music, art and gourmet meals created by executive chefs and students in the School of Hospitality Business Management.

Each Feast experience will begin with a reception featuring performances by vocalists and musicians from the acclaimed WSU School of Music and Theatre Arts. During the reception, WSU Museum of Art staff will present pieces handpicked from the museum collection and provide expert insights.

The event will consist of a four-course, gourmet meal prepared and served by Executive Chef Jim Harbour and students from the WSU School of Hospitality Business Management. Each course on the menu is accompanied by an exquisite Washington wine. The vintner will present the wine to guests while answering their questions.

The Sept. 29 Feast is called Heart of Harvest Feast and will serve cedar-plank salmon topped with huckleberries as the main course. The wine served will be a selection from the Gordon Brothers winery. One of the university’s talented string quartets composed of WSU faculty and students will be performing at the evening festivities.

The next Feast, Home Sweet Home Feast, will be held Oct. 13 with a reception being at 6 p.m. in the WSU Museum of Art and dinner at 7 p.m. in the Todd Hall Dining Room 268. The menu will feature rosemary rack of lamb, red wine mushroom sauce, horseradish cream sauce and Walla Walla onions. The meal will be served with Reininger wine. The musical guest for the evening will be Vojazz, a Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival award-winning vocal jazz ensemble.

Following that Feast, This Month in History Feast, Oct. 20 will feature cumin-roasted pork with tomato chutney and wine from Preston Premium Wines.

The Madrigal Singers will be the musical performers. The reception, held at 6 p.m., will be in Todd Hall Atrium with the 7 p.m. dinner following in Todd Hall Dining Room 268.

The Nov. 3 Feast, Gridiron Classics, will offer pepper-encrusted steaks with cognac cream served with wines from Cougar Crest Winery. The WSU Student Jazz Combo will provide the evening’s musical entertainment.

This Feast will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. in the WSU Museum of Art and dinner at 7 p.m. in the Todd Hall Dining Room 268.

The last Feast of the season will be East Meets West Feast, Nov 17. A delicious puff-pastry pacific salmon with lemon dill beurre blanc will be served along with wine from Ash Hollow. Crimson Revue will be the featured musical guest. The reception at 6 p.m. will be in the WSU Museum of Art with dinner at 7 p.m. in the Todd Hall Dining Room 268.

During each Feast the WSU Museum of Art staff will present pieces handpicked from the exhibition, “Art and Context: the 1950s and 60s” which portrays examples of abstract expressionism, color field, minimalism and pop art from the 1950s and 60s.

The cost of each event is $60 per person or $480 for a table of eight.
