Showcase honors the scholarly achievements of faculty, staff, and students over five days with poster sessions, competitions, and speeches.

Beginning March 24, the events engage WSU faculty, staff, and graduate and professional students to present their research, scholarship, or creative work to the WSU academic community.

  • Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA)
Freshmen through seniors in all disciplines compete for awards by sharing original research contributions to their fields. The public is invited to attend from 3:30–4:45 p.m., March 24, in the CUB Senior Ballroom on the WSU Pullman campus.
  • Distinguished Faculty Address
The annual Distinguished Faculty Address honors a faculty member who has risen to the front ranks of their discipline through achievements in research, scholarship, and teaching. Yong Wang, a Regents professor with the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture’s School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering, will give this year’s address. The topic of his talk is “Catalysis: Advancing Affordable and Clean Energy.” This year’s Distinguished Faculty Address will take place at 3:30 p.m. on March 25 inside the Terrell Library Atrium.
  • Three Minute Thesis
In this research communication competition, doctoral students have 3 minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis and its significance. Developed by the University of Queensland in Australia, Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) challenges students to consolidate their ideas and research discoveries so they can present them concisely to a non-specialist audience. This year’s event starts at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26.
  • Academic Showcase and GPSA Research Exposition
These poster sessions celebrate the achievements of faculty, staff, and graduate students engaged in WSU’s central mission: the advancement of scholarship, research, and the arts.
  • Crimson Reads: A Celebration of WSU Authors
Crimson Reads honors the diverse publishing achievements of WSU faculty, students, staff, alumni, and retirees. This event recognizes those who have authored/co-authored or edited a book (including e-books) within the past year. It takes place from 2-4 p.m. in the Holland & Terrell Libraries’ Atrium on the Pullman campus on Thursday, March 27.
  • Celebrating Excellence Banquet
The Celebrating Excellence Banquet takes place at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 28. It is an opportunity to honor the outstanding achievements of WSU faculty and staff. The awards program recognizes distinguished members of the university community.
  • Emerit Society Legacy of Excellence Lecture
An emerit who contributes to academia, the university, the community, and mankind while in retirement delivers the annual lecture. Ken Casavant, Emeritus Professor in WSU’s School of Economic Sciences, will give this year’s lecture from noon–1:30 p.m. on April 22.
