A view toward the future of affordable, clean energy production will be the centerpiece of this year’s Distinguished Faculty Address during Showcase Week.
Yong Wang, a regents professor with the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture’s School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering, will give Showcase’s Distinguished Faculty Address this year. The topic of his talk is “Catalysis: Advancing Affordable and Clean Energy.”
The talk will center on how catalysis — the use of a catalyst to increase the rate of a chemical reaction — will factor in the creation of more ecologically-friendly and efficient energy systems.
This year’s Distinguished Faculty Address will take place at 3:30 p.m. on March 25 inside the Terrell Library Atrium on the Pullman campus. The address, given each year by a faculty member at the forefront of their chosen field, is one of highlights of Showcase.

In addition to his role as regents professor at WSU, Wang serves as a laboratory fellow and acting director of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Institute for Integrated Catalysis. With more than 400 peer-reviewed publications to his name, Wang is a leading figure in the development of new catalytic materials and using reaction engineering to overcome the hurdles involved in creating fuels and chemicals from fossil and biomass feedstocks.
Wang was appointed a WSU regents professors in 2022, a prestigious club that currently includes fewer than 30 active faculty members. He was also recently named to the National Academy of Engineers, which is one of the highest professional honors that can be bestowed on an engineer.
Showcase Week this year runs from March 24–28 and includes a number of opportunities for students and faculty to highlight their work.
A reception will follow the address. More information about Showcase is available on the event’s website.
