Jacob Sajinyan honored as an emerging risk professional

Jacob Sajinyan, director of risk management at WSU, received an inaugural Emerging Risk Professional Award from the University Risk Management and Insurance Association on Sept. 30 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Jacob Sajinyan, director of risk management at Washington State University, has received an inaugural Emerging Risk Professional Award from the University Risk Management and Insurance Association.

Known by the acronym URMIA, the new award is designed to honor the association’s members who are serving in the early stages of a higher education risk management career and have already made contributions to and impacted the organization. The inaugural awards were presented Sept. 30 at URMIA’s annual conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Sajinyan serves as chair of URMIA’s Finance Committee, a position he’s been in since 2021. He presented a session at the 2024 annual conference and has led numerous webinars and community conversation events for the organization. He is also actively involved in URMIA’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts. Sajinyan is described by URMIA as a genuine professional always striving to learn more while helping others at the same time.

Founded in 1969, URMIA is a professional association dedicated to promoting the advancement of higher education risk management principles and best practices.
