Philanthropic relief funding is available for Washington State University students attending classes on any WSU campus who are experiencing financial emergencies related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Made possible through the generosity of WSU donors, the relief funding can help with a variety of expenses, including housing, food, health care, and materials required for participating in online instruction.
WSU students system-wide, including Global Campus, can apply by visiting the Office of the Dean of Students website. Once the application is submitted, a representative from a student’s respective campus will follow up with them to complete the application process.
According to Mary Jo Gonzales, Vice President for Student Affairs, students are particularly vulnerable to financial emergencies during this pandemic, as their safety and security are threatened by circumstances beyond their control.
“Cougars on every one of our campuses are experiencing sudden unemployment, causing many to make unimaginable choices including whether or not they can continue at WSU. They are worried about how they will pay for rent and food,” said Gonzales. “These funds provide a critical lifeline for students across our WSU System at a time when they need it most.”
Cougs are helping Cougs during this challenging time. In response to interest from the WSU community about how to help students impacted by the pandemic, the WSU Foundation created a webpage to provide donors the opportunity to support relief funding. Those interested in making a gift may do so on the foundation’s website.
“We are inspired by the many inquiries we have received regarding opportunities for Cougs to help Cougs, particularly our students during this unprecedented and difficult time,” said Lisa Calvert, Vice President of Advancement and CEO of the WSU Foundation. “They are acknowledging the urgency of these circumstances, and they want to help. It’s incredible.”
