Data Pitfalls in a Digital World: Protect Yourself

Robert Crossler, assistant professor of management information systems, will present “Data Pitfalls in a Digital World: Protect Yourself” at 4:30 p.m. March 6 in the CUE, Room 203, hosted by Washington State University’s Common Reading Program. The lecture is free and open to the public.

In this presentation, Crossler will consider the ramifications of putting personal data on the internet, and what individuals can do to be protected from related hazards. He will also provide insight into various career opportunities across a variety of disciplines, emerging to address these data challenges. He researches information privacy and security, and teaches about data and database management.

The WSU-wide Common Reading Program is exploring the theme of “frontiers of technology, health and society.” This year’s book, Ready Player One, highlights applications of technology in a variety of fields and encourages students to explore ethical dilemmas and changing senses of identity that arise in an increasingly digital world. Experts, such as Crossler, are invited to make frequent presentations to students on subjects that bridge their expertise and topics raised in the book.
