Remembering Tyler Hilinski and the other Cougars we have lost

A candlelight vigil in honor of Tyler Hilinski and all Cougs lost is set for 7 p.m. tonight (Friday, Jan. 19) at the Cougar Pride statue in front of Martin Stadium on the WSU Pullman campus.

“There are no words of comfort, no words of solace we can offer right now that will take away our individual or community pain,” Vice President of Student Affairs Mary Jo Gonzales and WSU Pullman Associated Students President Jordan Frost said in a joint statement. “When we lose someone, it hurts. It doesn’t make sense. It is hard to understand. It isn’t okay and it won’t be for some time. We have lost too many of our Cougar family members recently.”

The vigil, hosted by the Associated Students of WSU Pullman, will serve as an opportunity for Cougs to gather together and write condolence cards to the family. No formal program for the gathering has been established. Counseling staff and chaplains also will be on hand.

The University also has counseling and emotional support services available for students, faculty and staff throughout the WSU system.
