“Mingle” on display at WSU’s Gallery II

PULLMAN – The exhibition “Mingle” by painter Craig Cully will be on display Oct. 7–30 at WSU’s Gallery II in the Fine Arts Center.

The WSU Department of Fine Arts will host a reception for the artist at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 in the Fine Arts Center atrium, followed by a lecture by the artist at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

For “Mingle,” Cully has brought together two distinct bodies of work: portraits and still lifes.

Cully produces gorgeous portrait paintings with self-authored narratives exploring the awkward intimacies of human interpersonal relationships and the psychology of the self.

He has recently expanded his oeuvre to include still-life subjects rendered with intimate care and attention to the unique beauty of each subject.

The exhibition at WSU will consist of small- to medium-sized images painted with oil pigment on wood panel.

Cully earned his bachelor of fine arts from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and his master of fine arts from the University of Arizona. He is currently an assistant professor at New Mexico State University.

Gallery II is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1–5 p.m.
