WSU professor John MacNamara monitors as Johnson works to solve cube and break the Guinness World Record
PULLMAN – Mats Johnson, a Pullman High School senior and a WSU Running Start student, earned a potential spot in the Guinness Book of World Records by unscrambling 64 Rubik’s Cubes in one hour on April 10 at the WSU Visitors’ Center.
WSU faculty members Glenn Johnson and John McNamara served as monitors for the effort, which was Mats Johnson’s senior project at Pullman High. The attempt was made in accordance with rules supplied by Guinness World Records and will now be submitted for certification. The existing record is 42.
Johnson, who lives in Pullman, is the son of Carl and Janet Johnson (University Relations). He plans to attend WSU in the fall as a freshman, with a dual major of math and engineering.
