Jerry McCollum named top library supporter

Jerry McCollum was named Library Supporter of the Month during the February meeting of the Friends of Whitman County Library. Friends President
Virginia Pittman along with Library Administrators Kristie Kirkpatrick and Peggy Bryan presented McCollum’s award Monday during a visit to WSU’s Compton Union Art Gallery.
 
McCollum is the Coordinator for Arts and Culture at Washington State University and chairs the Visual, Performing, and Literary Arts Committee. He is also an accomplished photographer, artist, and designer. McCollum works tirelessly to foster an appreciation of art and culture throughout the region and sees Whitman County Library’s connections with the community as an important avenue for reaching people. 

Upon receiving the award, McCollum commented, “I am honored to receive this award. I very much admire the progressive attitudes and programs of Whitman County Libraries.”

In support of the library, McCollum donated printed artwork for the Library’s fundraising auction, lends use of his photographs to the library’s website and Friend’s of the Library cookbook and provides photographic exhibits for the Palouse and Colfax Libraries.
 
Most recently, McCollum pledged his cooperation in a local grant project that will produce high quality exhibits representing Whitman County’s historical past. If funded, one exhibit will be housed in the courthouse while the other will travel to schools, libraries, museums and other venues across the region and the state.
 
Whitman County Library trustees, Friends and administrators sponsor the library supporter award as a way to recognize individuals and groups who play a key role in forwarding the library’s activities, improving cultural offerings within our communities and supplementing a limited budget.
