WSU jazz ensembles to perform

PULLMAN — A concert featuring the award-winning WSU jazz ensembles will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in Kimbrough Concert Hall on the WSU Campus. The concert will be free of charge.
 
The concert will open with the VOJAZZ vocal jazz ensemble under the direction of Kathleen Hollingsworth. The group will sing selections that they will also perform at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
 
The Jazz Big Band under the direction of Greg Yasinitsky will perform Chick Corea’s classic “500 Miles High” as arranged by Mark Taylor, Doug Davis’s “B and Me” and Tom Kubis’s exciting “Slauson Cutoff.”
 
The band will also play two selections by director Yasinitsky: “Charlie’s Tune,” dedicated to WSU composition professor Charles Argersinger, and a newly commissioned piece, “Saratoga.” Soloists will include trumpeter Brendan McMurphy, pianist Charles Wicklander, bassist Matt Grimes and saxophonists Patrick Sheng, Oliver Walter, David Crow, Gabe DeMiero and Matt Lanka.
