Summer Elementary Students Get “A Time to Shine” at WSU Vancouver

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Elementary school students from the summer “At Home At School” (AHAS) program will present their creative works during “A Time to Shine”, a showcase at Washington State University Vancouver, 6 – 8 p.m., Sept. 5, in the Administration Building, Room 110. The event is free and open to the public.

The program, in its seventh year and directed by WSU Vancouver associate professor Susan Finley, paired education faculty and 34 graduate students with 300 elementary students at Sunset Elementary School in the Evergreen district. About 15 certified teachers who have graduated from the program returned to teach in the summer program.

In addition to bridge building, dance, art and writing, this year’s program featured a few new elements: environmental video public service announcements produced by the students, and a performance by the new AHAS Children’s Choir, directed by volunteer Anson Service, WSU Vancouver psychology graduate in 2006, now working on his doctoral degree from Argosy University.

Free parking for “A Time to Shine” is available in the WSU Vancouver Orange Lot 2. More information is available online, https://www.athomeatschool.org.
