VANCOUVER – Throughout the month of July the ceramic works of local artist Yothin “Yo” Amnuayphol will be on display in the WSU Vancouver library.
Yo creates ceramic pieces that are both beautifully crafted and conceptually based. He creates vessels that he says “represent a person as a container of feelings and ideas and emotions.”
A variety of textures are used to show those emotions and ideas. Smooth and shiny surfaces meet rough and dry areas on the wheel formed containers.
Yo uses humor in his work. In one piece he has a red ring resting on top of round white form that he describes as representing a woman’s breast.
The piece is about “the idea of a prize winner. The red ring is like a ring toss at a fair.”
A graduate of the Pacific Northwest College of Art, Yo has been an artist in resident at the Oregon College of Arts and Crafts and has exhibited his work in a number of galleries locally.
Entry to campus exhibits is free. WSU Vancouver Library is open Monday – Thursday: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m., Friday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday – Sunday: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
