Dryland organic cropping systems field day

PULLMAN – Organic crop management research will be featured at the Dryland Organic Cropping Systems Field Day from 8:30 a.m. to noon, June 18 at the Boyd farm research site near Pullman.
 
The Boyd farm research site is located between Pullman and Moscow at 3081 Pullman Airport Road.
 
The program includes a presentation by an organic grower from Fairfield who will discuss his on-farm experience.
 
Growers will also seethe cropping systems research plots that were initiated last fall.
 
These include rotations with alfalfa, sweet clover, wheat, barley, triticale, and winter peas. The effects of brassica seed meal on crops and weeds will also be shown.
 
Results from the first five years of organic cropping systems research will be highlighted including profitability, yields, weeds, and soil fertility in different organic transition systems.
 
Weed management implements that minimize soil disturbance will be shown in addition to the use of green manure, legumes, and animal manure for fertility will be discussed.

Travel Directions
 
From Pullman, travel east on Highway 270 to Airport Road (stoplight). Turn left and travel approximately 1.5 miles.
 
At the intersection with NE Terre View Drive, turn right onto Pullman Airport Road and travel 3 miles.
 
From Moscow, travel west on Highway 270 for approximately one mile. At the stoplight, turn right onto Pullman Airport Road and travel 2.5 miles.
