Programs realigned into colleges

PULLMAN – WSU moved around some programs recently to enhance collaboration and student options.

The WSU Spokane bachelor of science in exercise physiology and metabolism (ExMet) was moved into the College of Pharmacy. So were the Pullman-based nutrition and dietetics programs.

The goal is to have these groups merge into a new department headed by a permanent department chair within the next few years.

“There’s a lot of cross-pollination that can happen,” said Mark Garrison, vice chair of the Department of Pharmacotherapy.

For example, ExMet students recently traveled to Pullman to work with pharmacy students on an assessment exercise, and they worked together on health screenings in Spokane.

Spokane’s bachelor of arts in leadership and professional studies was realigned under the College of Liberal Arts. The program is now a degree option in the college’s general studies program.

“This move makes it possible for students from a wide variety of disciplines to pursue a course of study in leadership development from a humanities perspective,” said Clifton Barber, program director.

The BA in leadership and professional studies is the first general studies degree option to be offered on the Spokane campus. With this addition, general studies has degree options on all WSU campuses.
