Documentary shown at WSU Tri-Cities

Richland, Wash. — The documentary “Free Trade: A Closer Look at Bhopal” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Washington State University Tri-Cities.

Filmmaker Pavithra Narayanan will present and discuss the documentary in the Consolidated Information Center room 216, at 2710 University Drive, Richland. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the WSU Tri-Cities Digital Technology and Art Club.

“Free Trade” looks at the infamous 1984 gas leak at the Union Carbide Corp. plant in Bhopal. The chemical incident is estimated to have killed about 20,000 people and seriously injured or disabled countless others.

Narayanan is a professor at the WSU Vancouver in the English and the Digital Technologies and Culture departments.

Narayanan is originally from Kerala in southern India. She completed her doctorate at Bharathidasan University in Trichy, India. In addition to a background in British and Indian Literature and in Women’s Studies, she holds a master’s degree in Mass Communication. For the past several years, she has focused on economic policies and their impact on India.
