A public debate focusing on privacy vs. security will be held tomorrow, March 21, from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Glenn Terrell Mall.
The panel will include a sheriff, ACLU legal expert from the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, and a WSU Librarian. The debate ground rules include the opportunity for questions to and from audience members and the panelists. Future topics are likely to include local, national, and global environmental and women’s issues, and others starting again in the fall.
The public debate series was created after the controversy that occurred during the young republican’s border fence demonstration.
Organizers believe that WSU generally lacks opportunities for organized public debate on important topics, and that it is important that if we have expectations for lively civil debate, that we should model it as well–including students, faculty, staff, and community.
