The Board of Regents of Washington State University will be asked to approve an updated student code of conduct and a permanent policy allowing routine police patrols in residence halls at its regularly scheduled meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday (Nov. 17) at Room 405 of the Lighty Student Services Building.
The agenda for the meeting is available at https://regents.wsu.edu/Agendas-Notices/061117Agenda.doc.
The student conduct code revisions seek to clarify university policies on discrimination and harassment, while adding details regarding academic integrity violations, interim suspensions and the review procedures for student conduct decisions. A draft of the proposed rules is available at https://www.conduct.wsu.edu.
In September, the regents approved an emergency ordinance concerning police patrols in residence halls (https://www.wsunews.wsu.edu/detail.asp?StoryID=6048).
The emergency rule continued prior practice allowing police and other university personnel to be in common areas of the halls without being escorted by a person who lives on the floor. The regents will now be asked to make that rule permanent. Last month, a public hearing was held regarding the rule change. No students offered testimony at the hearing, although two written comments were received.
In other business, the regents will be asked to approve issuing up to $24.65 million in bonds to fund phases one and two of the Martin Stadium renovation project. The regents will also receive an update on the ongoing search for a successor to WSU President V. Lane Rawlins, who will retire in June 2007.
The WSU regents are also scheduled to have a joint meeting Saturday before the annual Apple Cup football game with the University of Washington Board of Regents. The two boards will hold a campus tour at 9:30 a.m. and then will meet at 11:30 a.m. in Room 518 of the Smith Center for Undergraduate Education. The regents are expected to discuss higher education costs and the universities’ joint health science initiative, but no action is expected to be taken.
The WSU regents will hold committee meetings Thursday in the Lighty Student Services Center.
