Defying captivity –in spades

A garden’s ability to humanize landscape and experience in the dire conditions of wartime and internment is the topic of “Defiant Gardens,” a lecture by author Kenneth Helphand, who recently wrote a book of the same title.

Helphand, professor of landscape architecture at the University of Oregon, will speak at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in CUE 203, sponsored in part by the Horticulture and Landscape Architecture Department.
