The annual Men’s Crew Row-A-Thon will be held on the Glenn Terrell Mall Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 24 and 25.
This event requires that the team row a minimum of 2,000,000 meters on rowing machines within a 24 hour period. Half of the on-campus donations will be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In the past two years the team has raised close to $1,000 for St. Jude’s efforts to help find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. The other half of the donations supports the team, a club sport that competes in the Pac-10 Conference.
“It’s a great event in so many ways,” said Sean Maginnis, historian and a sophomore studying sports management. “The fact that we are rowing for a good cause elevates our energy and outlook and gives these long endurance sessions even more purpose. In addition to that, there’s the exposure. We practice six days a week down at the Snake River, but sometimes we wonder if anyone remembers we’re there. This is a chance for us to give WSU a taste of what a hardworking team we are. It’s the efforts of each guy on the team which allows us to tackle this colossal challenge.”
The team will be accepting donations of any amount (cash or check) at the event, which runs continuously from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on both days.
