WSU a top school for lesbian, gay students

For gay or lesbian college students who want to feel accepted and supported, WSU is among the nation’s best places to be, according to a new book.

Billed as the first and only guide for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) students on finding the right college, “The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students,” authored by Shane L. Windmeyer, highlights the best 100 colleges and universities that offer resources and create a positive living and learning environment.

Heidi Stanton, director of the Gender Identity/Expression and Sexual Orientation Resource Center, said WSU’s inclusion in this book gives credibility to the work the center does on behalf of students. Universities are ranked not only on campus climate, but also on the political climate of the state in which they reside, she said. Only the top 20 were given specific rankings by The Advocate.
