Faith Ringgold planned to speak

Faith Ringgold, painter, writer, speaker, mixed media sculptor and performance artist, is scheduled to speak at WSU on Feb. 21 as the Jo Hockenhull Distinguished Visiting Lecturer.

“Not only is she an internationally known African-American artist, she’s an artist who has used her gifts in support of political change and social justice, especially for women of color,” said Noël Sturgeon, chair of Women’s Studies.

Ringgold, known to many for her children’s book “Tar Beach,” is recipient of more than 75 awards, fellowships and grants from some of the most prestigious foundations in the country.
