At Home At School Students Present ‘A Time to Shine’ at WSU Vancouver

VANCOUVER, Wash.— Washington State University Vancouver will present performances and art projects from the At Home At School summer enrichment program. The event will take place on Aug. 30. Admission is free.

WHO: K – 8 students who participated in the At Home At School summer enrichment program, held July 10 to Aug. 4 at Silverstar Elementary School in Vancouver, and their instructors from the Washington State University Vancouver Master’s in Teaching program.

WHAT: Performance and presentation of arts from the summer program, which focuses on children from low-income, transitional housing and the homeless, with the intention of providing a safe and educational program. Presentations include original poetry, visual arts, videos and photographs, singing, dancing, and “The Friendly Pirates of Silverstar,” a student-written musical comedy.

WHERE: Student Services Auditorium, WSU Vancouver campus, 14204 NE Salmon Creek Avenue.

WHEN: Aug. 30, 6:30 p.m.

WHY: Many students involved in the At Home At School program are unfamiliar with the idea of college. Bringing them to WSU Vancouver highlights their achievements and enlightens their awareness. Studies indicate that children who are exposed to college campuses are more likely to attend in the future.
