Wind damage forces Bonney Lake forest closure

As a result of damage caused by windstorms on Feb. 17 and 18, all educational activities have been suspended at the WSU Bonney Lake Demonstration Forest.

Located in Pierce County, the forest is used by WSU Extension Pierce County for 4-H Challenge programs for youth activities and education.

Because of the continuing danger from damaged trees, the public is prohibited from entering the forest until safety is restored.

About 200 trees were felled by the high winds. Another 50 were uprooted, but are still suspended in mid-air.

Damage assessment and clean-up is currently under way. Officials are uncertain when access to the forest will be restored.
