Trends in Hispanic population to be discussed

Demographer Annabel R. Kirschner, a WSU professor, will discuss recent trends in Washington’s Hispanic population at the Feb. 17 meeting of the WSU Tri-Cities Latino Outreach Collaborative.

Open to the public, the session begins at 10 a.m. in Room 210 of the West Building at the Tri-Cities campus in north Richland.

In her presentation, Kirschner, a noted demographer who is author of the “Washington Counts in the 21st Century” publications, will discuss trends in the growth, income and education of Washington’s Hispanic population over the past 15 years.

Kirschner is professor of community and rural sociology and interim chair of the Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles at WSU. In 2005, she received the “Excellence in Extension Award” from the university’s College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences.

Her presentation is being carried live to other campus locations in Washington on WSU’s interactive telecommunications system. It is available at the Deccio Center on the Yakima Valley Community College campus; Spokane Intercollegiate Research and Technology Institute 350; and at the WSU Center in Puyallup.
